2005, a professional basketball player, Eddy Curry, was traded from the Chicago Bulls to the New York Knicks because he refused to take a genetic test to see if he had a heart condition. From a CNN-Sports Illustrated article, “If he passed the test, he would receive $32 million [from the Bulls] over four years. If the test indicated that Curry was
predisposed to a potentially fatal heart condition, the Bulls promised him an annuity that
would pay Curry $400,000 annually for 50 years…” Mr. Curry feared that a positive test
would prevent his ever playing anywhere in the NBA.
